Pop culture reference ideas for the Pocalypse

Postby Tempest » 03 Nov 2010, 05:44

So, I wanted to start this thread, as everybody likes to read something that references something that they know about. it has a long explanation, but I know that people will be bored with the heavy psychoanalysis, so let's just say that people like it a lot when they feel that they are a part of something without even making an effort for it.(and I am asking for popular stuff, because we want to make this thing popular :D )

about the ideas, anything that is popular goes, really. video games(already done one with greener pastures actually), films, or lady gaga. just try to give an idea about how it can be used in the comic, and that should be enough.

anyway, go crazy :P

first one from me:

joe meets some vampires hanging out "twilight style", and he kicks their ass, then says "these aren't vampires, these are douchebags."(it is a reference to both twilight and supernatural)

Joe finds a fedora and attempts to do the thriller, but fails miserably. He then precedes to insult Micheal Jackson. Bernie/Stinger then takes the fedora and does it properly, allowing for Jess to pop in and tell Joe how much he was just burned.

another idea:

naming a scene the good, the bad and the mediocre.(reference to "the good, the bad and the ugly")

you can actually just use "the good, the bad and the ugly", but I think this is cooler.

Here's a Dawn of the dead reference i would love to see added in somewhere down the line.

[everyone's on a roof to watch a delivery truck racing around a mall parking lot]
Jess: What are we gonna do about that truck?
Joe: We're not gonna do anything about that truck!
Jess: There's people in there!
Joe: Yeah, and how do you know they're not all fucked up like everybody else out there?
Jess: Well, for one thing, they're driving a truck.
[gunshots coming from truck]
Jess: Oh, and shooting guns.

And how bout we reference Francis Left for dead, specifically, his favorite catch phrase.

Joe should say "I hate [Non specific object of his ire, typically generalized places or specific professions like Lawyers or cops]" often.

At some point down the road

Bernie/Stinger: Joe is there anything you don't hate?
Joe: I dont hate [ whatever fits here]

Some time after that

Jess: Hey Joe, your latest issue of "Hating Everything" magazine is here.
Joe: I hate latest issues.

You could always use a 'Shaun of The Dead' reference,
there are countless possibilities, from the queen song don't stop me now to a dialogue such as

Joe: what weapons work best at killing these things?
Other Character: Well guns ideally but you can use normal household items too!
Joe: Like Cricket Bats and Spades?
Other Character: Don't be stupid this isn't the movies!

its an ideal reference as the film was also a comedy based on Zombie apocalypse

You obviously need to have a Zombieland reference here.

"The thing that I love the most about the pocalypse is the fact that I can pee anywhere and not have somebody post it on twitter."

"Uh... what?"

i was thinking it would be nice if and when they're fighting the robotic guys for one of them to look suspiciously like Robocop.
