I like (sorta) cheating. Since there's a high chance one of my name suggestions will win, since there's so many of them.

slight variation, but instead of thornbeck, i kinda like the sound of thornback.
I'm not insane, i'm only semi-sane.

I'm for not changing his name, but if we were to vote on some temporary name given by the amazing Nick, I think he'd pick something technical,

Lupus-Plantae
Plantaerex
Luxivore ... rex, lol

Well, if Nick is naming it, he should name it in his view, and because he's a doctor, it has to be something smart :]
When I posted "Vinlupé" earlier, I got it out of Google Translate (I do this to name a bunch of items and weapons in my DnD class) meaning "Vine wolf" or something like that. Oh well, I just hope that Joe chooses this (id he hasn't chosen already).

Uh... what? I got higher than average IQ (130), I still come up with weird names that doesn't really have any meaning other than sounding good in my head. Just because you're smart doesn't mean your name giving is purely intellectual.

Keep it the same, but he could maybe be referred to as Scruff as a nickname.

If what we're going for is unimaginative scientific names how about:
Flora Lupis
Flora Canis
Flora Lupine
or
Flora Canine
e.i. using science species definitions instead of a name
flora - plant (I think in latin but am not sure)
Canis, canine - dog (in latin -is and -ine are just different cases, both plural)
Lupis, Lupine - wolf (in latin -is and -ine are just different cases, both plural)
.
this way our wayward doctor could keep acting the fool but at the same time have his doctor knowledge balance that.
As an added bonus Joe could later say, "Sure Scruffle's is a Flora whatever-you-said but his name is Scrufflebeck, Damn it!"
The Beginning foretells the End, the End starts the Beginning anew, but in betwixt lies the best part, the Journey

Green XIII: Because he looks a lot like Red XIII from FFVII to me. . .

But seriously, I'd like to propose Bramblehyde for Scruff's new name. Mix of thorn and Dr. Jackle, Mr. Hyde goin' on. And hyde sounds like hide which is yo skin. So, yeah. . . >.>

Or BotanusFenrir.

EDIT: Oh, also, YAY my first post! :D

Having Flora in front of everything is just lazy, like calling it Flora Fauna (or Fauna Flora), because it's a plant and an animal at the same time.

Seriously, we need something simple and catchy.
